Youth Volunteering – Making it Work
Wednesday 20th April 2011, 11.00am - 3.30pm, Swansea Council for Voluntary Service, 7 Walter Road, Swansea
Who wouldn't want volunteers that are full of energy and enthusiasm with varied insights and a fresh perspective on the world? Involving young people in your work is an excellent way to liven up an organisation whether you want to appeal to a different audience, come up with a new fundraising strategy or diversify your volunteer base to appeal to more clients.
Lots of organisations across Swansea are already tapping into the potential of young people, and have engaged them in a wide range of volunteering opportunities for the benefit of the wider community.
Many policies, programmes and courses are calling for young people to get active in their communities, leading to an increase in the numbers of young people looking for opportunities that are right for them. Could your organisation be the place to harness and enhance a young person's skills through a quality volunteering opportunity?
Whether you need support in developing the opportunity, promoting it or accrediting it, we can help. Perhaps you require support in thinking about the possible opportunities your organisation might be able to offer, or the legal elements or good practice in involving young people as volunteers. We can help!
To find out more about getting started and/or getting funding, book yourself on to attend the Youth Volunteering – Making it Work session by contacting Flik Walls on 01792 544030 or email: felicitie_walls@scvs.org.uk
The session will cover:
- The benefits of involving young people in your organisation
- Good practice in working with youth volunteers
- Legal issues around involving young people in your organisation
- A presentation on the GwirVol funding streams for developing and promoting local and
international opportunities, creating volunteering opportunities in sports and funds to accredit young people's contributions through the Millennium Volunteers Scheme
Promote those opportunities – calling all organisations offering roles for 14 and 15 year olds!
A local comprehensive school is keen to host a Volunteering Fayre on Friday 15th July 2011 to highlight the possible opportunities for young people in this age range. If you would like to be involved, please contact Flik on 01792 544030 or email: felicitie_walls@scvs.org.uk as soon as possible.
