LEAF (Learning about Exercise, Activity and Food) Health Project launches across Swansea
Over 350 people are expected to attend a number of road shows being held across the city promoting LEAF, a new healthy lifestyle Project which launches across Swansea this month.
LEAF (Learning about Exercise, Activity and Food) is a project coordinated by SCVS, the umbrella charity for the voluntary sector in Swansea, and funded by the BIG Lottery. The project aims to improve the health, physical activity levels and general well-being of children, young people and their families. LEAF's FREE programmes can be delivered to groups within community settings, schools or within people's homes over the course of 6 weeks. Carol Green, Director SCVS said, “the LEAF Project addresses Level 1 of the All Wales Obesity Pathway, as it focuses on community based prevention and early intervention”.
The road shows kick off on Monday the 20th of May from 2pm-5pm in Birchgrove Community Centre. There will be a variety of fun activities run by the LEAF team, with all the family and children of all ages welcome. Children will get the chance to try their hand at Pizza Making, Sports and Games!
The five LEAF Road Show events being held in May are:
- Birchgrove Community Centre - Monday 20th (2-5pm),
- The Phoenix Centre in Townhill - Tuesday 21st (1:30-4:30pm),
- Park Williams Pavilion in Loughor – Wednesday 22nd (2pm-5pm),
- Blaenymaes Community Centre - Thursday 23rd (4-7pm)
- Brynmill Community Centre - Friday the 24th (2-5pm)
LEAF Project Co-ordinator Amanda Edwards said “the LEAF team have spent a lot of time planning a host of exciting activities for the Road Shows, and we're now very keen to start working with communities across Swansea to help them improve their health and activity levels”
The Road show is an opportunity for people to meet the LEAF team and try out some of the activities LEAF has to offer. LEAF estimates that over 70 people who want to feel healthier and happier will sign up for the programme at the Road Show.
