SCVS BOARD OF TRUSTEES


ALUN EVANS - CHAIR:

Alun has been involved with the Voluntary Sector for over 25 years in a range of formal and informal volunteering opportunities, and has been fortunate to have paid employment in the Sector since 2000. Alun takes a keen interest in volunteer strategy within wider communities and is actively committed to championing diversity and equality of opportunity. Alun is currently Head of Business Development and Support at Swansea Neath Port Talbot Citizens Advice Bureau, and a Freelance Tutor for the National Organisation Citizens Advice.


ENNIS ROBERTS:

Ennis Roberts is Treasurer of the Association for the Welfare of Children in Hospital (AWCH), a Swansea based charity promoting the welfare of sick children in hospital, home and the community, having worked with them for over 40 years. She has been a member of old Swansea CVS and West Glamorgan CVS, and Chair of Swansea CVS until 2008. Serves on the Finance and Personnel Committee, and is a member of the Charities Fair Committee. Has also represented SCVS on the Community Health Council and other health related committees.


TAHA IDRIS:

Taha Idris, OBE, JP, is a Freeman of the City of Swansea. Mr Idris has been in the race equality movement since 1983 when he became the first Treasurer of West Glamorgan Community Relations Council, later serving as Treasurer of Preston & West Lancashire Racial Equality Council for a number of years. Previous roles have included: Community Fund Board member April 2003 – April 2004, Big Lottery Fund Board Member for Wales from April 2004 -2007. He is currently a board member of the Swansea Children & Young People's Strategic Committee amongst a host of other advisory roles that he undertakes, and was appointed to lead Swansea Bay Racial Equality Council in November 2000. Mr Idris' contributions to the civic society were recently recognised by Her Majesty the Queen, who awarded him the Order of the British Empire (OBE). He was also awarded the Welsh Honours of 'Recognising Achievement for Service to Wales' by the First Minister in June 2010.


DR BEN REYNOLDS:

Ben Reynolds PhD, BSc (Hons), A.I.E.D. - Ben is the Director of Trilein Ltd.; a regeneration consultancy practice working across Wales and England. He has a Doctorate in urban regeneration and 12 years experience working in the regeneration sector. Ben began his career working in the voluntary sector in Swansea, and has founded and served on the boards of several social enterprises, non-profit groups and partnership bodies, including Swansea's Objective One community assets panel. Through his consultancy work he has worked for a wide array of public, private and third sector clients; recently, completing work for: Oxford University on their public and community engagement strategy; the BIG Lottery as part of the support team for their £270m my place programme; and the Forestry Commission Wales on their £16m Cydcoed funding programme. Ben has also worked on a wide range of community projects, including small community play projects; feasibility and business planning work for capital projects; social enterprise support and development; and urban renewal projects. Ben's skills include research and consultation, business planning and feasibility studies, evaluation, and partnership working.

Representing Faith in Families (Swansea and Brecon Diocese)


PAMELA WATERHOUSE - VICE CHAIR:

Pamela Waterhouse became an SCVS trustee in 1997. She founded Pontarddulais and District Arthritis Research UK in 1986, and has been branch secretary since its inception. She was elected Pontarddulais Town Councillor in 2004 and is a former Town Mayor of Pontarddulais. Pamela, who retired from teaching in 2009, is also a long-serving Trustee of Pontarddulais and District Community Car Scheme.


CHRISTINE WATSON - COMPANY SECRETARY:

Has been working in the voluntary sector for over 9 years now and has worked with many different client groups. Has a broad experience of all aspects of voluntary work, training and management. Currently working as the Manager of Discovery Swansea Student Community Action.


RON WATERHOUSE - HONORARY TREASURER:

Ron is currently Pontarddulais Town Mayor and is a committee member of Pontarddulais and District Community Car Scheme and Pontarddulais and District Agricultural Show. He has been a member of Pontarddulais Arthritis Research UK since the branch was formed in 1986, and its treasurer since 1996.


MICHAEL BANKS:

Michael is the Chairman of the Civillian Committee of Gorseinon Air Training Corps and Treasurer of the Royal Engineers Association. He is also in the process of setting up a group for Alzheimer's patients and carer's called 'Forget Me Not', which will be based in Killay.


JANE HARRIS:

Represents Pontarddulais Partnership. Jane has been a town councillor for a number of years and is an active contributor to the community, particularly in the development of services.


CLLR Jan Curtice:

Elected representative from City and County of Swansea.


CLLR Neil Ronconi-Woollard:

Elected representative from City and County of Swansea.


CLLR Pearleen Sangha:

Elected representative from City and County of Swansea.


MARY LYTHGOE:

Founded, directed and ran a cancer charity for 16 years from 1994 to 2008. Since retiring from this role Mary continues to work as a counsellor, Trainer and supervisor. Member of the SCVS Board of Trustees and a representative on various sub committees at SCVS. Chairman of Swansea Charity Partnership, and member of the board of Trustees of NPTCVS and Tiddlywinks. Has been involved in the voluntary sector for over 40 years.


JOHN THOMAS:

Represents Interplay.


JUNE THOMAS - VICE CHAIR:

Member of Board of Trustees since 1997. A member of Compassionate Friends and the Stroke Association, and assists with the Bereavement Support Group help line. The Compassionate Friends is a national organisation of bereaved parents.
