The Rural Development Plan for Wales: Project Ideas Needed

The Rural Development Plan is part of a new European Union programme to promote the economic regeneration of rural areas. The Rural Wards in Swansea that can benefit from the plan are: Bishopston, Fairwood, Gower, Penclawdd, Pennard, Llangyfelach, Mawr, and Pontarddulais.

SCVS has worked closely with voluntary, community, statutory and private sector partners to develop the initial business plan that focuses on young people, the promotion of walking and cycling, tourism, local arts, crafts and food. We now need 3rd Sector organisations working in the rural wards to contribute to the development of the next phase of the work. Although the formal guidance and application process is not due out until later in 2009, the Rural Development Partnership is keen to get an early idea of what people have in mind for future projects. Your idea will need to fit with the Swansea Rural Local Development Strategy in particular Section 8 (Aims and Objectives p.40). Even if your idea is still at a very early stage, please submit your idea anyway so that members of the Partnership can advise you. A link to the project idea form and more information about the Rural Development Plan, The Rural Development Partnership and Rural Swansea Action are now available below.

To request a project idea form or become involved in the work of the Partnership or Local Action Group, please contact: Paul Relf, European Officer, Economic & Strategic Development, Regeneration Directorate, City & County of Swansea, Civic Centre, Oystermouth Road, Swansea, SA1 3SN. Email: paul.relf@swansea.gov.uk or tel: 01792 636858.
