What is the Mental Health Forum?

The Forum is an umbrella group of voluntary mental health organisations working in the City and County of Swansea.

The Mental Health Development Service facilitates and supports the Forum and its members.

The aims of the Forum are:

    • To be a focal point for mental health organisations working locally.
    • To act as a force for change in services provided for people with mental health problems.
    • To debate and promote the consideration of new and creative patterns of mental health services.
    • To promote high standards of service provision and good practice in mental health.

    The Forum's objectives are:

    • To maximise the mental health voluntary sector's contribution to the implementation of the National Service Framework and to provide a local, strategic response to and work with that Strategy and any other strategy documents designated for implementation.
    • To support the mental health voluntary sector's ability to access funding made available via joint planning and the National Assembly for Wales.
    • To share and provide information on alternative sources of funding.
    • To identify gaps in provision of mental health services that can be recommended to the voluntary sector as providers.
    • To share information relating to the needs of users, carers and workers within voluntary mental health projects.
    • To utilise skills and expertise amongst the membership of the Forum and other agencies in Swansea.
    • To support the full and effective participation of voluntary sector users and carers in the planning structure.
    • To support the development of voluntary sector user and carer initiatives.
    • To promote multi-agency co-operation.
    • To raise public awareness by active work in the community, informed use of media and by all other available means.
    • To pursue a policy of anti-discrimination, taking an active lead in countering the disadvantage and prejudice experience by any group.

The Mental Health forum welcomes any voluntary sector group which provides a service to adults who may be experiencing mental health problems.
