The Next Phase of Communities First: 2009 to 2011

Although it was anticipated that this phase would be referred to as “Communities Next”, as a result of the overwhelming view that has come through the recent consultation process regarding branding, the new phase of the Programme will remain as Communities First. Some elements of the new phase may be called Communities First Plus but this will not affect the names of local partnerships.

There has been further reinforcement of the commitment to further develop Communities First into an Outcomes focused Programme, with a greater proportion of resources targeted at front line delivery and less on administration and support. This means that the changes already made to the monitoring and reporting process will remain unchanged.

Communities First/Plus will remain a programme which is the next phase of Communities First and will mobilise and enable local people to contribute to the regeneration of their communities in practical ways, in line with their local priorities and those of statutory bodies such as the Assembly, local authorities and health bodies to build on the achievements of Communities First.

The programme is currently going through a transition process which will enable continuation from April 2009 with minimum disruption, while establishing the principles and priorities set out by the Deputy Minister following the consultation.
