What impact does volunteering really have?
Charities and the wider not-for-profit sector make very important economic and social contributions to society as a whole. They provide vital services and strengthen communities.
The sector in Wales comprises around 30,000 organisations, of which 27,094 are small organisations, and an estimated 2000 are based in Swansea (WCVA 'Voluntary Sector Almanac' Update 2010) . In recent years, the sector has grown in income, number of organisations, and employment.
There are considerable benefits for society in having a voluntary sector that's prosperous, growing, and identifying new needs; including improved services for people in need, better facilities for people all over Swansea and a sense of citizenship and responsibility for our communities.
As the sector grows in size and scope, its impact on Wales and the people who live here can only gain more and more momentum.
