Volunteers Week is just around the corner, so here's a summary of some of the things you can find during the week:

* SCVS Actvities:

- We will be having information stalls to help members of the public find out more about Volunteering and some of the opportunities that are available at various supermarkets across Swansea. Come and visit us to find out more!

  • Friday 1st June (9.30 - 4.30) @ Tesco in Llansamlet
  • Monday 4th June (9.30 - 4.30) @ Somerfield in Gorseinon
  • Thursday 7th June (9.30 - 4.30) @ Sainsburys in the City Centre

- Swansea Sound (1170MW or by DAB): SCVS will be on the air with Leighton Jones discussing Volunteers Week, Volunteering and reasons to get involved at 11.40am on:

  • Thursday 31st May
  • Monday 4th June
  • Tuesday 5th June
  • Wednesday 6th June
  • Thursday 7th June

* Volunteers Week Activities being held by other organisations:

- RSPCA Llys Nini Animal Centre (Penllergaer, Swansea, SA4 9WB) are holding a 'Dog of the Year Show' and a 'Cat-less Cat Show' on Sunday 3rd June at 11am. All are welcome, and the organisers would like to say that this event could not be held without the support of their volunteers - Thank You!

- Swansea Community Farm have a variety of events and activities happening during the week, including;

  • Tuesday 5th June (10-4): Tool Repair - Dai Morris, from Bishopswood Nature Reserve, will be teaching volunteers how to repair old tools using traditional methods – in the process we will repair the Farm's tools ready for use on Volunteer days.
  • Wednesday 6th June (10-4): Farm Drop in Day - The Farm will be open to anyone wishing to find out a little more about volunteering. Pop along and talk to Kari about the wide range of volunteering opportunities on offer. If it's a nice day you are more than welcome to bring a packed lunched for a picnic on the lawn or stop and have a cup of tea in the training room. Come one come all!
  • Thursday 7th June (10-4): Farm Hands Day - Thursday's are the regular volunteer day, where adults can take part in various volunteer opportunities, such as tending the animals, maintenance and site development tasks, organic gardening, office duties and other farm related tasks. Bring a packed lunch and wear suitable clothing! To celebrate Volunteers' Week 2007, Boyd Erlam, of Shiko drum group, will be leading an African drum and percussion session at 2pm followed by an afternoon tea party on the lawn.
  • Friday 8th June (11-12.30 / 1-3.30): Environmental Art Sessions - Ester Ley will be running two environmental art sessions on the Farm using household scrap and natural items from around the Farm. Everyone welcome to come along to one of the sessions (all children under 16 years must be accompanied by a responsible adult). Don't forget to bring unwanted scrap items that you think could make a fine piece of art work.

- Discovery are holding an event at Fairwood Airport to celebrate volunteering and receiving our Investing in Volunteers award. It will involve volunteers skydiving to fundraise for discovery and activities with our service users and lunch. We will then take our volunteers and service users to the Gower Folk Festival. The event is being attended by the Vice Chancellor of the university and a representative from WCVA.
