This course will introduce you to the skills and attitudes necessary for working effectively in a supportive relationship with others. 

Cost: £50 to members of SCVS.

16th, 23rd and 30th March, 9:30 – 2:30

It is suitable for staff/volunteers whose role involves communicating empathically to individuals/patients/service users/citizens/clients and will focus on developing active listening skills, recognising barriers to communication as well as reflecting on values and increasing self-awareness. 

This 3 day course is being offered on-line via Zoom and sessions will include a mix of group, paired and self-reflective activities – with regular breaks away from the screen.

The course is offered at an introductory level and provides underpinning knowledge for further training in this field.

    The course will include opportunities for:

    • developing practical skills for active listening
    • exploring the attitudes required for effective support relationships
    • understanding barriers to effective communication and how to overcome them
    • increasing self-awareness and resources for self-care when working with others
