This course will introduce you to the skills and attitudes necessary for working effectively with others in a helping role.

This is a four part course which takes place on Mondays 4th, 18th June and 9th, 16th July, 10am - 4pm.

The total cost for this four full day course is £80 for full SCVS members.

The course will focus on developing listening skills, reflecting on values and increasing self-awareness. The course is suitable for anyone whose work or volunteering involves listening empathically to others, as well as those considering taking on this role.  The course is offered at an introductory level and provides underpinning knowledge for higher level courses in this field.

  • Counselling skills theory
  • Ethical approaches in counselling
  • The skills, knowledge and attitudes desirable in counselling
  • How to develop self-awareness in helping relationships
