This course is open to anyone who has existing experience of managing volunteers and has previously attended an Introduction to Volunteer Management course.

Cost: £40 to SCVS Member Organisations for the 2 day course.

This course is for volunteer managers and co-ordinators who want to increase their knowledge, skills and confidence when managing volunteers. The course will cover matching volunteers to the task and the client, tips for effective communication, providing effective volunteer supervision, working with supported volunteers and identifying and meeting volunteers’ training needs. The course will also help you assess volunteer impact, linking to service evaluation.

Course objectives:

  • Linking with staff across your organisation so they understand how important volunteers are
  • Increased confidence in assessing volunteers suitability and matching the volunteers to client or task
  • Tips for effective communication with volunteers
  • Understanding how to maintain motivation and increase reliability
  • How best to support volunteers with additional support needs and supported volunteers
  • Be aware of what to do when policies are broken
  • Be able to provide volunteer supervision, with effective feedback
  • identifying training needs for volunteers and drawing up volunteer development plans
  • Discussion on volunteer impact assessment
