Skills for Support Workers (4 part course) - Face to face Many voluntary organisations were established to address the unmet needs of specific groups of people. The experiences of the pandemic have intensified pre-existing difficulties for many and staff and volunteers are increasingly responding to a range of complex issues. Trainer: Sarah Millband Cost: £40 for SCVS member organisations for the 4 part course. Taking place on 18th, 25th November, 2nd, 9th December, 10 – 12.30. This series of 4 workshops has been designed to offer a safe and supportive space to explore the challenges of supporting people with a range of different needs, many of which may have been causing long standing distress and difficulties. We’ll be exploring what drew us to our role in the first place, the challenges of setting and maintaining clear boundaries, how trauma sensitive practice can support our work and how self-care for staff and volunteers can prevent burn-out. The workshops will be informal and will include time and space for both individual and group reflection on the themes, opportunities for developing new skills and for learning about some simple frameworks designed to enable us to continue to offer good quality support to others, whilst taking care of our own wellbeing. Learning Objectives: Reflecting on personal intentions and motivation for the work we do Establishing healthy working relationships and setting appropriate boundaries Embedding trauma sensitive practice in to our ways of working Exploring personal wellbeing and preventing burn-out Please note that if you fail to attend or you provide less than 2 weeks' cancellation notice you will be charged the full amount. If you find that you are unable to attend, we do allow and encourage you to find someone to take your place on the course, if this is possible for us to do for you at the time.
