St John Cymru LogoAs part of their Defibruary campaign, St John Cymru are running free, 2 hour, Defib awareness courses.

They are taking place on:

  • 22nd February, 2pm - 4pm or 5pm - 7pm

  • 23rd February, 11am - 1pm

Every year there are around 8,000 people in Wales that experience out of hospital sudden cardiac arrest. A cardiac arrest occurs when the heart stops beating effectively and normal breathing ceases. This results in the casualty becoming unresponsive and urgent intervention is required. The chances of survival are greatly increased when an AED is applied.

The short awareness session will take you through how to access and use a public access AED and will teach you how to administer CPR. Their courses also help provide you with the knowledge and confidence you need to deal with an emergency situation.

The course is suitable for anyone over the age of 14. No previous first aid experience required.

This course however is not suitable for those responsible for using a defib in the workplace - for workplace training they would recommend the full AED training course

What will you learn?

  • Assess an incident
  • Treating an unresponsive casualty
  • Recovery position
  • Resuscitation
  • Awareness of the use of an AED
