SCVS are working to support this campaign across Swansea and Neath Port Talbot, and are asking colleagues from BAME communities to also lend support by providing short, written testimonials, photos and/or short video clips about the vaccination.

Research shows that Covid-19 is having a disproportionate impact on our Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities.

Having a Covid vaccine will help us limit the spread within our communities, but a recent Public Health Wales report found that the largest inequality in uptake was seen between ethnic groups in adults aged 80+ years. Uptake for the combined Black, Asian, Mixed and Other ethnic groups in this age-group was 71.5 per cent compared to 85.6 per cent in the White ethnic group, a gap of 14.1 per cent.

A Black Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) Coronavirus Vaccine Forum has been set up to dispel the myths, give reassurances and present the facts, to ensure that everyone can make an informed decision about the vaccinations and to encourage take up. The Group includes leading figures from our local BAME communities.

We are working to support this campaign and are asking colleagues from BAME communities to also lend your support by providing short, written testimonials, photos and/or short video clips about the vaccination.

We are encouraging input from BAME colleagues who have already had a vaccine, and those who are willing to say that they are going to take it up when it is their turn.

If you would like to support this campaign, please send your messages and videos to: [email protected]

Please record your videos in landscape (wide) not portrait (tall).

Here are some of the things that you could include (but only details you are comfortable to share):

  • Your name
  • Your job
  • Your ethnic group or religion

If you have already had the vaccine

  • Whether you have already had the vaccine and why you were eligible (this could be because you are in a priority group or because of your profession)
  • Why you decided to take up the offer of the vaccine (because of your job, to protect your family, friends, colleagues, the community?)
  • How you found the experience (was it quick? was it painless?)
  • Anything else you want to say to people who might be nervous or not sure about having a vaccine

If you haven’t yet had the vaccine

  • Why you will be taking up the offer of the vaccine (because of your job, to protect your family, friends, colleagues, the community?)
  • Anything else you want to say, for example in response to any misinformation or rumours you may have heard about the vaccine

Thank you
