How do Action for Children work?

Action for Children does what's right, does what's needed and does what works for children across the UK. Every year, their team changes the lives of 301,000 children, young people and their families – but for every child who needs help to get help, there's plenty more to do. That's where you come in.

The project helps vulnerable young parents aged 16-25 who are making a start on living independently as a family. They help them set up home, develop the skills of managing a tenancy, parenting and life skills.

How will you make a difference?

  • By visiting families on a 121 basis to provide housing & parenting related support, information, advice, advocacy and skill building to help them achieve a safe, stable and secure home and family life.
  • By supporting young families to maximise their income in applying for entitled Welfare Benefits and Grant applications, and with increasing their skills in money management by budgeting and dealing with debt where necessary.
  • By supporting them to achieve their personal goals e.g. going back to education, gaining employment etc.

What will you need?

  • NVQ3 Health & Social Care or appropriate equivalent qualification or already be working towards this
  • Excellent communication skills
  • The ability to build relationships at all levels across multiple agencies
  • An understanding of the issues faced by young parents and the ability to engage with them and build trust
  • The job requires the ability to travel according to the needs of the job, with reasonable adjustments, if required, according to the Equality Act.

Closing date: 23rd September.
