Youth Offending Service - Young Persons Worker - Swansea

Barod are looking to recruit a Young Persons Worker, to work within the Youth Offending Service (YOS), who will be responsible for providing a drug and alcohol service, targeting under 17 year olds coming to the attention of the Youth Offending Service and/or young people at risk of offending.

The post holder will be responsible for:

  • Providing secondary prevention and therapeutic work with substance misusing individuals and/or groups coming into contact with the Youth Offending Service.
  • Providing primary prevention work with non-substance misusing individuals and/or groups coming into contact with the Youth Offending Service.
  • Ensuring access to and maintenance of appropriate support networks and services for young people.
  • Accepting and assessing referrals within the Youth Offending framework.
  • Undertaking assertive outreach, targeted at young offenders and young people at risk of offending.

Barod are looking to recruit a Young Persons Worker to motivate young persons affected by substance misuse to work towards engaging with educational, training, vocational or employment opportunities.  

The post holder will be responsible for:

  • Recognising indications of substance misuse and acting upon immediate risk of danger to substance users.
  • Working in accordance with the practice of “harm reduction” in substance use work by support individuals who are distressed, and referring individuals to specialists, whilst supporting individuals to access and use services and facilities.  
  • Delivering healthcare services by supplying and exchanging injecting equipment for individuals and assess substance misusers care needs by carrying out a comprehensive substance misuse assessment to identify and prioritise needs and referrals.
  • Undertaking assessment and referral process, assessing referral eligibility and suitability accepting or refusing referrals re-routing referrals where appropriate, allocating work.
