The lives of many individuals who experience mental ill-health are impacted by stereotyping and stigma.

This course explores the impact this can have on individuals, develops your understanding of the most common forms of mental health difficulty and provides information on the support available from local mental health services. The underpinning intentions of the course are to increase your confidence in working with clients with mental health difficulties.

This course is offered at an introductory level – if you already have some knowledge and experience, Mental Health First Aid is a progression from Mental Health Awareness training, so might suit your learning needs. See the Training Programme for details.

Course Learning Objectives:

  • Understand how stigma and stereotyping impact our awareness of mental ill-health
  • Increase knowledge about common mental health conditions, including depression and anxiety
  • Explore the Recovery agenda and how this might relate to clients you work with
  • Identify support available from local organisations

Course Fees:

  • SCVS Members - Full Day Course - £20
  • Non SCVS Members / Individuals - Full Day Course - £150

To ensure that the payment of fees is not a barrier to attending courses, we provide some places at reduced cost to individuals receiving benefit/out of county third sector organisations. Please contact the Training Team if you would like to apply for a bursary.
