FFOPS LogoFFOPs is the only Community Criminal Justice Charity in Wales to provide practical and emotional help to children, families and friends within the community who have loved ones enter the Criminal Justice System.

One of their Trustees received a Butler Trust Award a recognised Award within the CJ System.

FFOPS provides professional Voluntary Support within the Criminal Justice System and signposts service users to other statutory agencies. It works to break the cycle of reoffending, creating a safer community and maintaining meaningful relationships whilst in the Criminal Justice System. It aims to be the first and last contact when children, families and friends visit HMP Swansea, befriending families, escorting children, when appropriate to visit their parent, practical support and advice, providing a presence in Crown and Magistrates Courts.

FFOPs needs new trustees:

  • With specific experience of professional support and developing Policies and Procedures
  • Who are passionate about breaking the cycle of reoffending and the work FFOPs do to support the families and friends of prisoners
  • Who are prepared to play an active part within board meetings
  • Who have the ability to work as part of a team and share their experience
  • Who have empathy and a non-judgmental attitude
  • Who when possible are able to provide hands on support e.g. at funding raising events

Ideally new trustees will have or be prepared to develop:

  • A knowledge of the Criminal Justice System
  • A knowledge and understanding of children, families and friends who a doing a second sentence (Forgotten Victims)
  • Experience of applying for grant funding

Commitment required:

  • Attend Trustee Meetings - 2 hour meetings, usually held every 3 months (but more regularly when necessary). Meetings are usually arranged after work but if required can be arranged during the day
  • Read policies and procedures
  • Read examples of service users cases
  • Develop some knowledge of the Criminal Justice System
