Gower College logoGower College Swansea’s mission is to inspire and support learners to achieve their full potential through the delivery of the highest quality of education and training.

The Governing Body is responsible for the strategic direction and financial health of the College, the employment of the Principal and the framework for the employment of other staff.

As a governor you will be helping the College work towards its long-term strategic objectives and short-term plans and goals.

The role can be very worthwhile and enjoyable. It requires a commitment of time - around four or five hours or so a month, and is unpaid (except for travel expenses). In return you will be providing the College with the benefit of your experience and you will be able to develop personally and learn a great deal about the learner environment.

  • An ability to form effective working relationships with fellow governors, and managers at the College;
  • Confidence to support the College but scrutinise and challenge to ensure the best decisions are made;
  • An ability to bring your own skills and experience to the mix of skills and experience held by current governors.

The Board expects governors to adhere to a Code of Conduct, the Nolan principles of public life and the expectations that arise from being a Charity Trustee.
