Working at SCVS

SCVS Logo - no wordsAbout us

Swansea Council for Voluntary Service (SCVS) is the umbrella organisation for voluntary activity throughout the City & County of Swansea; supporting, developing and representing voluntary organisations, volunteers and communities in the county.

We’re a friendly and collaborative staff team who encourage, support and celebrate each others successes; led and governed by a committed team of trustees who are passionate about our work.

Our organisation is passionate about equality, diversity and inclusivity and we are proud to be a Real Living Wage employer, and a We Show the Salary pledged employer.

We care deeply about staff wellbeing and are a Time to Change pledged organisation. We also hold the Gold Small Workplace Health Award from Public Health Wales.

A career, not just a role…

52% of the current staff team have been with the organisation for more than 5 years - of these, 25% have been with us between 10 and 20 years, and 13% have been with us for more than 20 years!

What our team say…

I've been working at SCVS for ten months now and can honestly say the benefits that come from working here are brilliant. My personal confidence level has gone up considerably and, thanks to the supportive atmosphere, I can grow both professionally and personally. I love it here.

I have been lucky enough to work at SCVS for 11 years. I feel proud to work for an organisation that offers such vital support to the community with equality at its core. I have been very well supported in my roles over the years by the wonderful staff and management, have been given excellent opportunities and training and have been encouraged to progress in my career within SCVS. I feel extremely grateful for the flexibility, support, encouragement and care I have received working here. Staff wellbeing is always a priority and I have certainly felt that during my time here.

As a standard, SCVS employees receive…

  • A standard working week of 35 hours for full time staff
  • A stakeholder pension scheme contributing 8%
  • A mileage rate of 45p per mile, with active travel option rates also available
  • An annual leave entitlement of 28 days a year (pro rata for part time employees), plus bank holidays
  • Additional discretionary days (primarily used to cover the Christmas closure period)
  • The opportunity to adopt a hybrid working pattern covering office and home based working, and flexible working arrangements
  • Ongoing staff training and development opportunities
  • Paid sick leave and compassionate leave to help deal with life’s unforeseen circumstances

We also offer additional benefits and rewards, such as…

  • The opportunity to request additional annual leave of up to 10 days a year (through a salary sacrifice scheme)
  • Bank Holidays - SCVS team members can choose to convert up to 3 bank holidays a year (for full time staff) into annual leave to take when it works for them
  • Access to Welsh language classes, paid for by SCVS and offered in work time
  • Opportunities to undertake employer supported volunteering activities
  • Access to our staff wellbeing assistance programmes as outlined in our Wellbeing Commitment (including awareness sessions, one to one counselling and more)
  • The opportunity to participate in the SCVS cycle to work scheme, which can offset the cost of purchasing a bike in line with our commitment to sustainable travel choices
  • Social activities as teams and as a whole organisation throughout the year

When we are recruiting for new team members you can find roles listed in our Jobs section, along with other positions at Third Sector organisations offering support in Swansea.
