We’re delighted to announce the successful applicants to the round 6 small grants of the Mynydd Y Gwair Windfarm Local Community Fund to date.

The Mynydd y Gwair Windfarm Local Community Fund offers grants to organisations providing services, facilities or activities that benefit the communities within the Community / Town Council areas of Llangyfelach, Pontlliw and Tircoed, Pontarddulais, Mawr, Penllergaer, Clydach and Morriston.                                                                   

Round 6 opened in October 2020 for applications for Small and Medium grants from third sector organisations, social enterprises, schools and Town and Community Councils in the areas of benefit.

Applications can be submitted up to 11^th January 2021.

The 3 successful applications to date are:

• Pontarddulais Age Concern To provide monthly contact, a delivered lunch and access to a technology service to ensure that older people in the group continue to stay safe and positive until we can meet up.
• Bont Elim Community Church To maintain services until it is safe to re-open and rebuild all the groups and classes within the building, as well as expand our services over the next season.
• Friends of Coed Bach Park Provision of play equipment for a group of young people that have limited access to outside facilities where they can socialise

The Mynydd Y Gwair Wind Farm Community Fund is made available by RWE’s Mynydd y Gwair Wind Farm. Now it is operational, the 16 turbine project can generate enough renewable electricity to power the equivalent needs of approximately 22,600 average Welsh homes.

The community funding from Mynydd y Gwair Wind Farm is long term, sustainable funding, and is expected to distribute approximately £6million over the 25-year operational lifetime of the project.
