As the Community Commissioners started the process of building relationships within the group and preparing for the launch event, we were put in touch with, and had the privilege of working with local artist, Rose Davies and Swansea based Chilean photographer, Humberto Gatica.

A series of workshops were organised with the aim of exploring how to communicate the feelings, thoughts and experiences associated with poverty in a range of different ways.

This approach led to the commission becoming more accessible and inclusive for participants, opening new avenues to share stories and identify common themes while learning new practical skills.

During the first sessions with Rose, the group decided to make collages of one word that described their past experience of poverty, and one word that described their feelings about the future.

Humberto’s sessions with the group enabled participants to explore their communities and environment, and their experience of poverty, through taking photos and using mobile phone editing software.
