We’re delighted to announce another successful batch of applicants to the round 10 small and medium grants through the Mynydd Y Gwair Wind Farm Community Fund, with five projects receiving £69,986.44.

The Mynydd y Gwair Wind Farm Community Fund offers grants to organisations providing services, facilities or activities that benefit the communities within the Community / Town Council areas of Llangyfelach, Pontlliw and Tircoed, Pontarddulais, Mawr, Penllergaer, Clydach and Morriston.

Round 10 opened in October 2022 for applications for Small grants up to £10,000 and Medium grants of up to £30,000 from third sector organisations, social enterprises, schools and Town and Community Councils in the areas of benefit.

This round, 5 successful applicants were awarded a total of £69,986.44

• Clydach Cricket Club - £10,000 - to convert the vacated machinery garage to 2 changing rooms with showers and a toilet.
• Garnswllt Welfare Hall Association (GWHA) - £26,995 – to install a fire safety system, external lighting and access ramp.
• Mawr Community Council - £9,096.44 – for fencing and gates to enclose the football fields on Rhyddwen Road, Craig Cefn Parc.
• Pontarddulais Comprehensive School - £10,000 – to repair flooring in the Sports Hall and MUGA for the school and wider community use.
• Pontarddulais Partnership - £13,895 – funding for a collaborative project with Bont Elim and Pontarddulais Comprehensive School to initiate ‘One Bont’ to provide more streamlined services, particularly those related to food provision locally, and provide a polytunnel for growing project based at the school.

The Mynydd Y Gwair Wind Farm Community Fund is made available by RWE’s Mynydd y Gwair Wind Farm. Now it is operational, the 16 turbine project can generate enough renewable electricity to power the equivalent needs of approximately 22,600 average Welsh homes.

The community funding from Mynydd y Gwair Wind Farm is long term, sustainable funding, and is expected to distribute approximately £6million over the 25-year operational lifetime of the project.
