Mynydd Y Gwair Wind Farm Community Fund: Round 17 main and micro grants announced! We’re delighted to announce a successful batch of applicants to the Round 17 micro and main grants through the Mynydd Y Gwair Wind Farm Community Fund. The Mynydd y Gwair Wind Farm Community Fund offers grants to organisations providing services, facilities or activities that benefit the communities within the Community / Town Council areas of Llangyfelach, Pontlliw and Tircoed, Pontarddulais, Mawr, Penllergaer, Clydach and Morriston. In Round 17, 12 successful applicants were awarded a total of £114,489. Round 17 ran from April 2025 to September 2025 for applications for Main and Micro grants from third sector organisations, social enterprises, schools and Town and Community Councils in the areas of benefit: Coed Lleol - To deliver nature-based wellbeing engagement sessions and to establish a new outdoor learning space in Clydach. 6th Llangyfelach Scouts Group - To build an outdoor classroom to help create a sustainable and engaging learning environment that will directly benefit several young people by providing a natural, inspiring space for education. Penllergare Trust - To build on successes of the previous project by engaging even more people with the nature on their doorstep. Plans to engage at least 400 new participants through nature-based activities. Pontarddulais Partnership - Provision of a year-round ‘warm hub’ for 2 days per week providing a free hot meal at each session. They will also provide energy advice sessions and ‘warm home packs’ for those most in need. Pontarddulais Town Council - Contribution to improvements of the Mechanics Institute in Pontarddulais. Positive Vibes Boxing Academy - To secure their own dedicated premises to establish a permanent home for their boxing and wellness academy. This will give them the freedom and flexibility to expand their current programme and offer more training hours. Swansea Canoe Polo Club - To install an outdoor calisthenics fitness rig enabling affordable regular long-term exercise for club members to use multiple times per week. Friends of Pontlliw Park - For the enhancement of facilities at the Friend of the Park Community Hub and the introduction of a new shrub bed at the Swansea road entrance to Pontlliw Park. Pontarddulais Town Council - To establish a monthly community cinema and film club for both children and adults at the Mechanic’s Institute. Call of the Wild Development Trust CIO - To fund a resilience programme where Year 6 participants, in Clydach, take part in daily outdoor team building tasks, learn coping mechanisms to manage stress and behaviour and get to experience exciting outdoor activities. Pontarddulais Football Club - To install a CCTV system to cover the changing rooms and café facilities at Coed Bach Park. Pontarddulais Cricket Club - Contribution to fund a sight screens replacement. The current sight screens have weathered over time and are beyond repair. The sight screens are essential for matches to take place at the ground. A breakdown of the projects and amounts awarded is available by clicking here The Mynydd Y Gwair Wind Farm Community Fund is made available by RWE’s Mynydd y Gwair Wind Farm. Now it is operational, the 16-turbine project can generate enough renewable electricity to power the equivalent needs of approximately 22,600 average Welsh homes. The community funding from Mynydd y Gwair Wind Farm is long term, sustainable funding, and is expected to distribute approximately £6million over the 25-year operational lifetime of the project.
