Butterfly Conservation image June 2026Butterfly Conservation is a UK charity leading on the conservation and protection of our much-loved butterflies and moths.

Its vision is a world where they can thrive and be enjoyed by everyone, forever. They carry out science led conservation work across the UK, are supported by our fantastic volunteers and work to provide more opportunities for everyone wherever they live to engage with butterflies and moths.

As part of the charities work in communities across the UK it has a programme of work - Wild Spaces - which is helping it reach and inspire more people to take action regardless of where they live.

Wild Spaces is all about inspiring everyone to feel empowered to act to help butterflies and moths and is engaging communities across the UK by providing opportunities to get involved and make a difference.

They are currently exploring opportunities to develop a new Wild Spaces project for Wales, and are exploring opportunities in Swansea and the surrounding area.

Their Wild Spaces Officer Sammy Fraser is leading on this piece of work, and would love to hear from organisations, community groups and members of the public in Swansea and the surrounding area if they would be interested in collaborating.

This could include (but is not restricted to!):
•    Wild Space creation
•    Environmental skills training
•    Public events
•    Citizen science training
•    Wellbeing and arts activities
•    Youth work

Butterfly Conservation are engaging new audiences including young people in urban locations, to inspire people to create many different types of Wild Spaces – from window boxes and planters to allotments and gardens.

Creating a growing movement will help harness the collective difference of individual actions, enabling Wild Spaces to be a force for good for people and communities as well as for butterflies and moths.
