Nofela: Books, Brews, and Community Connection Nofela CIC is a social enterprise with a clear and vital mission: we’re dreaming up a cosy, queer-centred, not-for-profit bookshop, café, and LGBTQ+ community space in Swansea. For many in our community, finding a space that feels truly safe and representative can be a challenge. Nofela is designed to be that sanctuary—a place where LGBTQ+ people of all ages can see themselves reflected on the shelves and feel a genuine sense of belonging. Our name, Nofela, reflects our core; we are a space dedicated to the power of stories to connect, educate, and empower. Our Journey: Pop-ups and Partnerships While we work toward our goal of establishing a permanent home in the city centre, we aren't waiting to start building community. We are currently active across the city through a series of pop-up events and collaborations. By partnering with local LGBTQ+ groups and existing community venues, we are bringing our curated selection of queer literature directly to the people. The "Why" Behind Our Current Work These pop-ups are about much more than selling books; they are the "proof of concept" for our grander vision. As we are currently applying for grant funding and seeking investment, these events allow us to gather essential evidence of the local demand for a dedicated queer space. Every conversation shared over a brew and every book that finds a home helps us build the case for a permanent, physical sanctuary in Swansea. We are proving that the need is there, one pop-up at a time. Nofela Bookswap collaboration with QueerTawe at Urban Kitchen. Looking Ahead As a Community Interest Company, our focus is entirely on social impact. Our future storefront will offer a sober social space, a café, and a venue for creative workshops, queer history projects, poetry & music events etc.. Swansea’s LGBTQ+ community deserves a space to call their own, and at Nofela, we are writing the first chapters of that story right now.
